EIA Storage Report

Working Gas in Underground Storage Compared with 5-Year Range

Commentary
While analysts anticipate a modest print with Thursday’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) inventory report, reflecting last week’s heat wave, storage levels are stout. Injection estimates submitted to Reuters for the week ended Aug. 15 averaged 22 Bcf. NGI modeled an 18 Bcf build that compared with a fiveyear average increase of 35 Bcf. Still, EIA reported a 56 Bcf injection for the Aug. 8 period. It boosted stocks to 3,186 Bcf and put working gas in storage nearly 7% above the five-year average.
Customer Takeaway
The market continues to break down based on cooling demand reductions. We are moving into the Fall period in a very good position. Inventories are strong and production remains near an all time high. The winter month contracts are coming down and should bring value for winter gas.
